The I-Need-Help Ask

Most moms wait until they are in crisis to ask, which means the ask comes out as an accusation.

Why this works

Asking early, specifically, and while calm is what actually gets you help. Vague asks get sympathy, not support.

Do this

  1. 1Write down what would make you feel less underwater. Be concrete.
  2. 2Run the prompt to turn it into an ask someone can act on.
  3. 3Ask one person. Today.

Your prompt

I am carrying too much and I want to ask for help before I fall apart. Here is what is on my plate: [list]. Here is what would actually help: [be specific]. Help me write the ask to [person]. First ask me to pick a register: Direct (plain) or Collaborative (warm, with a thank-you). Then write it in the register I choose — specific, and easy to say yes to, without turning it into an apology for existing. Give me three versions: one for another adult in my life, one for family, one for a friend. If there is no other adult who could realistically help, say so plainly and give me the family and friend versions only.

Today's action

Ask one person for one specific thing.

You're done when: Someone knows what you need and has said yes.
