Name What Only You Are Carrying

There is a difference between doing the work and remembering the work. You are probably doing both.

Why this works

The invisible labor is not the dinner. It is knowing the dinner has to happen, that you are out of pasta, and that the pasta you are out of is the only kind your youngest will eat. Naming it separates the doing from the holding — and only the holding can be handed off.

Do this

  1. 1Go back to your list. Find the items that are not tasks but reminders — things you are the only one who knows.
  2. 2Highlight anything nobody else in your house knows about.
  3. 3Run the prompt to see which of those are genuinely yours.

Your prompt

Here is the part of my list that nobody else in my house knows about: [paste]. For each one, tell me: is this genuinely mine, or am I holding it because I never told anyone? If I am holding it, write the one sentence I say to hand it over — to the other people in my life: family, my kids if they are old enough, my school, my job. If there is nobody to hand a particular one to, say so plainly and tell me what I can drop instead. First ask me to pick a register: Direct (plain) or Collaborative (warm, with a thank-you). Then write it in the register I choose. Be direct, but do not make me sound like a martyr.

Swap the brackets for your own details, then paste it into any AI tool.

Today's action

Circle three items that are yours only because nobody else knows. Those are your targets this week.

You're done when: You can tell the difference between doing the work and holding the load.
